Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adult dosage varies by infection type and may require higher strength formulations; 125 mg suspension is typically for pediatric use. Consult a physician for specific adult dosing.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly with normal renal and hepatic function.
Children
For children (6 months to 15 years): 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days, or 10 mg/kg on day 1 followed by 5 mg/kg daily for 4 days. Max 500 mg/course.

How to Take
Oral administration. Can be taken with or without food. Shake the suspension well before use. Measure the dose accurately using the provided measuring device.

Half life
Terminal elimination half-life is 2-4 days.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; bioavailability is approximately 37%.

Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic
- History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
May increase serum digoxin concentrations; monitor digoxin levels.
Warfarin
Potentiate the effects of oral anticoagulants; monitor prothrombin time carefully.
Nelfinavir
May increase azithromycin serum concentrations.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium
Reduce peak serum levels of azithromycin; administer azithromycin at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after antacids.
Storage
Store dry powder below 30°C, protect from light and moisture. After reconstitution, store at room temperature (below 30°C) or in a refrigerator (2-8°C) as per product instructions, and discard after the specified period.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and reversible hearing loss. Management involves symptomatic and supportive measures.
