Description
Overview of the medicine
Adecut 5 mg Suspension contains Montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma and for the relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in pediatric patients.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Generally, Montelukast 5mg suspension is not prescribed for adults; the adult dose is typically 10mg (tablet or granules). Consult physician for specific guidance.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally needed for elderly patients taking Montelukast, but 5mg suspension is less common for this age group.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with renal impairment. For children 6-14 years: 5 mg (as suspension) once daily in the evening.
How to Take
Administer orally, once daily in the evening. May be taken with or without food. Shake the suspension well before use.
Mechanism of Action
Montelukast selectively antagonizes the CysLT1 receptor, preventing the binding of leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, LTE4). Leukotrienes are potent inflammatory mediators involved in asthma and allergic rhinitis, causing bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, and inflammatory cell recruitment. By blocking these receptors, Montelukast reduces inflammation, improves airflow, and alleviates allergic symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 day for asthma/allergic rhinitis symptoms.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in feces via bile (approximately 86%), with less than 0.2% excreted in urine.
Half life
Approximately 2.7 to 5.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentration achieved in 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP3A4, 2C8, and 2C9.
