Description
Overview of the medicine
Adonid 500 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and lower fever. It is typically prescribed for conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, menstrual pain, and mild to moderate pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 500 mg once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician. Max dose: 1000 mg/day.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required; caution is advised due to increased risk of side effects, particularly renal and gastrointestinal complications.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment may be necessary; use with caution. Not recommended for severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take Adonid 500 mg Tablet orally, preferably with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Adonid acts by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), which is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. By reducing prostaglandin production, Adonid effectively alleviates these symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesic effect.
Excretion
Excreted mainly via the kidneys (urine) as metabolites and unchanged drug; a small amount is excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2C9) to inactive metabolites.
