Description
Overview of the medicine

Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill one drop in each eye once daily.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for renal impairment, as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch. Squeeze the drop into the pouch. Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface. Close eye gently for a few seconds. If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.
Mechanism of Action
Alcaftadine is an H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer. It works by preventing histamine from binding to H1 receptors in the conjunctiva, thereby blocking the allergic response and reducing symptoms like itching. It also inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells.

Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with topical ophthalmic administration due to minimal systemic absorption. If accidental ingestion occurs, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated.
