Description
Overview of the medicine
Aleena 4 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching. It works by blocking histamine, a natural substance that the body makes during an allergic reaction. It is a non-drowsy formulation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One 4 mg tablet once daily.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised due to potential age-related decrease in renal or hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min), initial dose of 4 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Take the tablet orally with or without food, usually once daily. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a long-acting tricyclic antihistamine with selective H1-receptor antagonist activity. It prevents histamine from binding to H1 receptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of histamine such as vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, and itching.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief of symptoms typically occurs within 1 hour.
Excretion
Excreted in urine and feces, predominantly as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 27 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within approximately 3 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized to 3-hydroxydesloratadine, an active metabolite, via hydroxylation. Metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, though the specific isoenzymes are not fully characterized.

Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to desloratadine, loratadine, or any component of the formulation.
