Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily. Some patients may achieve adequate control with 5 mg once daily.
Elderly
5 mg once daily, considering potential age-related decline in renal function.
Renal_impairment
For patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min), the dose should be reduced to 5 mg once every two days.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Can be taken in the morning or evening.
Mechanism of Action
Cetirizine works by selectively blocking H1-histamine receptors, thereby preventing the actions of histamine, a natural substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Theophylline
A minor decrease in cetirizine clearance has been observed, but dose adjustment is generally not necessary for theophylline.
Central Nervous System (CNS) Depressants
Concurrent use with alcohol or other CNS depressants may increase CNS depression and impair alertness.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, agitation, tachycardia, or urinary retention. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; there is no specific antidote.
