Alfil (Sildenafil Citrate) is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Erectile Dysfunction: 50 mg as needed, 1 hour before sexual activity. Max dose 100mg. Max frequency: once daily. For Pulmonary Hypertension: 20 mg three times daily.
Elderly
Initiate at lower doses (e.g., 25 mg) due to potential for age-related decreased renal and hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Mild to moderate impairment: No dosage adjustment needed. Severe impairment: Initiate at 25 mg.
How to Take
Oral administration, with or without food. Avoid high-fat meals as they may delay absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Sildenafil inhibits PDE5, which increases cGMP levels in the corpus cavernosum, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis.
