Alphapress XR is a beta-blocker used to treat hypertension and angina.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Hypertension: 25-100 mg once daily. Angina: 100-200 mg once daily. Heart Failure: Initial dose 12.5-25 mg once daily.
Elderly
Initiate at lower end of dosage range.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment generally required. Monitor renal function.
How to Take
Swallow whole, do not crush or chew. Take with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, reducing heart rate and blood pressure.

Contraindications
- Severe bradycardia

CYP2D6 Inhibitors (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine, quinidine)
May increase metoprolol levels.
Storage

Overdose
Bradycardia, hypotension, heart failure, bronchospasm, hypoglycemia. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Administer atropine for bradycardia; administer vasopressors for hypotension.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when metoprolol is administered to a nursing woman.
