Ambronaaf 15 mg syrup contains Ambroxol Hydrochloride, a mucolytic agent used to relieve productive cough associated with various respiratory conditions by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 ml (30 mg) 3 times daily. Or as directed by the physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. Or as directed by the physician.
Renal_impairment
In severe renal impairment, the dose should be reduced or the intervals between doses should be prolonged. Or as directed by the physician.
How to Take
Ambronaaf syrup is for oral use. It can be taken with or without food. Use the provided measuring cup or spoon for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Ambroxol works by stimulating serous glandular cells to produce a less viscous mucus and by increasing the activity of hydrolytic enzymes, thereby reducing mucus viscosity. It also enhances mucociliary clearance.

Excretion
Mainly via the kidneys (approximately 90%), with a small amount excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 10 hours (terminal half-life).
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2.5 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily in the liver to various conjugated metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or any component of the formulation.
- •In rare hereditary conditions that may be incompatible with an excipient of the product.
Drug Interactions
Antitussives
Concomitant use with antitussives (cough suppressants) is not recommended as it may lead to a dangerous accumulation of secretions due to the impaired cough reflex.
Antibiotics (e.g., Amoxicillin, Cefuroxime, Erythromycin, Doxycycline)
Ambroxol can increase the penetration of some antibiotics into bronchial secretions, potentially enhancing their therapeutic effect.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Treatment is generally symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage may be considered if taken recently.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use in pregnancy and lactation should only be considered after careful risk-benefit assessment by a physician, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy.
