Description
Overview of the medicine
Analpain 120 mg Suspension is a medication used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever. It contains Paracetamol, which works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
This 120 mg/5 mL suspension strength is typically for pediatric use. Adults would generally use higher strength formulations (e.g., 500 mg tablets). For children, typical dose is 10-15 mg/kg every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 60 mg/kg in 24 hours.
Elderly
Not specifically formulated for elderly; adult dosing considerations apply for higher strengths. Consult a doctor for appropriate dosage.
Renal_impairment
In severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min), dose interval may need to be extended to 8-12 hours. Consult physician.
How to Take
Administer orally, usually with a measuring spoon or oral syringe provided. Can be taken with or without food. Shake well before use.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) primarily acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, particularly COX-2, in the central nervous system, leading to its analgesic and antipyretic effects. It has minimal anti-inflammatory effects peripherally.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Approximately 30-60 minutes for analgesia and antipyresis.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in the urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates. Less than 5% is excreted unchanged.
Half life
1.5 to 3 hours in adults, slightly longer in neonates and shorter in children.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation. A small portion is metabolized by cytochrome P450 to a highly reactive intermediate (NAPQI), which is detoxified by glutathione.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Paracetamol or any component of the formulation
- •Severe hepatic impairment or active liver disease
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
Increased risk of liver damage with chronic alcohol consumption.
Warfarin
May enhance anticoagulant effect, increasing bleeding risk with prolonged regular use.
Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital
May increase the risk of liver toxicity.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and liver damage (which may be delayed). Seek immediate medical attention. Treatment involves gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) administration.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Paracetamol is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation when used at recommended doses. However, consult a doctor before use.
