Overview of the medicine
Domperidone is a dopamine antagonist with antiemetic and prokinetic properties. It is used to relieve nausea, vomiting, and bloating.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10-20 mg every 4-8 hours, up to a maximum of 80 mg per day.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required, based on renal and hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Reduce dose according to the severity of renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably 15-30 minutes before meals.
Mechanism of Action
Domperidone blocks dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing peristalsis and accelerating gastric emptying.
