Description
Overview of the medicine
Aristophen-1 Eye Ointment is used to treat inflammatory conditions of the eye's anterior segment, such as allergic conjunctivitis or post-operative inflammation, by reducing swelling, redness, and itching.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a small amount (approximately 1/2 inch ribbon) into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) 2-3 times daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients; follow adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with renal impairment due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For topical ophthalmic use only. Wash hands thoroughly before application. Gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket and apply a thin ribbon of ointment. Close the eye gently for 1-2 minutes.
Mechanism of Action
Aristophen works by inhibiting specific mediators involved in the inflammatory and allergic response pathways in the ocular tissues, thereby reducing symptoms like redness, swelling, and itching.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptomatic relief typically begins within minutes to a few hours after application.
Excretion
Mainly cleared locally from the ocular surface; negligible systemic excretion.
Half life
Primarily local action; systemic half-life is not clinically significant due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption occurs following topical ocular administration, with primary action localized to the eye.
Metabolism
Local metabolism within ocular tissues; minimal systemic metabolism if any trace absorption occurs.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Aristophen or any component of the ointment.
- •Acute untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral infections of the eye (e.g., herpes simplex keratitis).
Drug Interactions
Systemic Medications
No significant systemic drug interactions are expected due to minimal systemic absorption from topical ophthalmic application.
Other Ophthalmic Preparations
If using other eye drops or ointments, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications. Apply Aristophen-1 Eye Ointment last.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with topical ophthalmic application. If swallowed, seek medical advice. Symptomatic treatment may be initiated if significant systemic exposure occurs.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Consult your doctor.
