Overview of the medicine
Arotide is an atypical antipsychotic primarily used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It helps to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10-15 mg once daily; target range 15-30 mg once daily. Max 30 mg/day.
Elderly
Start with lower doses, e.g., 5 mg once daily, with gradual titration.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Can be taken with or without food. Take at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Arotide acts as a partial agonist at D2 and 5-HT1A receptors, and as an antagonist at 5-HT2A receptors, modulating dopamine and serotonin activity.

Onset
Several days to weeks for full therapeutic effect.
Excretion
Excreted primarily through feces and urine.
Half life
Approximately 75 hours (active metabolite included).
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 3-5 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized by CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 enzymes in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Arotide or any component of the formulation
- •Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole) or CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g., quinidine) without dosage adjustment.
Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., carbamazepine, rifampin)
May decrease Arotide levels; increase Arotide dose.
Strong CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g., quinidine, fluoxetine)
May increase Arotide levels; reduce Arotide dose.
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)
May increase Arotide levels; reduce Arotide dose.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include somnolence, vomiting, tachycardia, aggression, and extrapyramidal symptoms. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; maintain airway, monitor cardiac status.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during lactation; advise women to discontinue breastfeeding or the drug.
