Overview of the medicine
Arth-A 250 mg Tablet contains Etodolac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used for the relief of pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by various arthritic conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250 mg to 500 mg, two or three times daily, not exceeding 1000 mg/day.
Elderly
Initial dose should be lower, typically 250 mg twice daily, and carefully titrated based on patient response and tolerability.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary in severe impairment. Not recommended for severe renal disease.
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Etodolac inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, mediators of pain and inflammation.

Pain relief generally within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the kidneys (75%) and feces (25%) as inactive metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 6-7 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally; peak plasma concentrations achieved in 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by glucuronidation.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Etodolac or other NSAIDs
- Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Third trimester of pregnancy
- Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery (peri-operative pain)
Drug Interactions
Lithium
Increased plasma lithium levels.
Warfarin
Increased risk of bleeding.
Diuretics
Reduced diuretic and antihypertensive effects.
Methotrexate
Increased methotrexate toxicity.

Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain. Management includes symptomatic and supportive treatment, gastric lavage, and activated charcoal.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid during the third trimester of pregnancy due to risk of premature closure of the ductus arteriosus. Use with caution during early pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and benefits outweigh risks.
