Description
Overview of the medicine
Artifresh Eye Gel is an ophthalmic lubricant used to relieve dry, irritated eyes. It provides long-lasting comfort and protection from irritation, mimicking natural tears.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch. Squeeze a small amount of gel into the pouch. Close eye gently and blink a few times. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium acts as an ophthalmic lubricant by increasing the viscosity of the tear film and lubricating the eye surface, thereby reducing friction and discomfort. It helps to keep the eye moist and protected.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Immediate
Excretion
Primarily eliminated via tear drainage with minimal systemic excretion.
Half life
Not relevant for topical ophthalmic agents with minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption expected due to topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Not systemically metabolized to a significant extent.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to carboxymethylcellulose or any component of the formulation
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Preparations
If using other eye medications, administer Artifresh Eye Gel at least 5-10 minutes after other drops or gels to prevent dilution or altered absorption.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Do not freeze. Keep away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Accidental overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to minimal absorption. If excessive amounts are instilled, rinse the eye with lukewarm water. Symptomatic treatment if irritation occurs.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation due to minimal systemic absorption. Consult a healthcare professional before use.
