Overview of the medicine
Ketotifen is a mast cell stabilizer with antihistaminic properties, primarily used for long-term prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma and allergic conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 mg twice daily with food.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment generally required, but caution with renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Oral, with food.
Mechanism of Action
Stabilizes mast cells, preventing release of inflammatory mediators (histamine, leukotrienes). Also possesses H1-receptor blocking activity.
