Description
Overview of the medicine
Pheniramine Maleate is a first-generation antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes/nose/throat, and skin rashes. It can also cause drowsiness.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 25-50 mg every 4-6 hours. Parenteral: 22.75 mg (1 ml) IM/IV, repeated as needed.
Elderly
Start with lower doses due to increased sensitivity to anticholinergic effects and sedation.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Oral tablets can be taken with or without food. Injections are administered intramuscularly or slowly intravenously.
Mechanism of Action
Pheniramine Maleate acts as a competitive antagonist of histamine H1 receptors. By blocking histamine's action, it reduces the allergic response. It also has anticholinergic effects.

Half life
10-19 hours
