Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For mild deficiency: 10-25 mg daily. For severe deficiency/beriberi: 10-30 mg three times daily. For Wernicke-Korsakoff: 100 mg daily or as directed by physician.
Elderly
Same as adults, but may require lower doses if renal function is impaired.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take

Excreted in the urine as metabolites and unchanged thiamine.
Half life
Approximately 9-18 days for its active form, TPP.

Metabolism
Metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to thiamine or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
Chronic alcohol consumption can reduce thiamine absorption and increase its excretion.
Neuromuscular blockers
Large doses of thiamine may theoretically enhance the effects of neuromuscular blockers.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Thiamine is a water-soluble vitamin and generally considered non-toxic, even in high doses. No specific antidote. Symptomatic and supportive treatment if adverse effects occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe in recommended doses during pregnancy and lactation. Thiamine is an essential vitamin. Consult a doctor for therapeutic doses.
