Description
Overview of the medicine
Axxo-005-075 Cream is a combination medicine containing a corticosteroid and an antibiotic, used for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions where bacterial infection is present or likely to occur. It reduces redness, itching, and swelling while fighting bacterial growth.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area two to three times daily, or as directed by a physician. Treatment duration should generally not exceed 2 weeks.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients, but use with caution due to potential for thinner skin.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary for topical use.
How to Take
For external use only. Wash hands before and after applying the cream. Apply a small amount of cream to cover the affected area and gently rub it in. Do not apply to open wounds.
Mechanism of Action
Betamethasone Valerate is a potent corticosteroid that works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling, redness, and itching. Fusidic Acid is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth of bacteria and clearing the infection.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief of symptoms typically begins within a few days.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the kidneys (corticosteroid metabolites) and bile (fusidic acid).
Half life
Systemic half-life not precisely characterized for topical application; typically short for absorbed amounts.
Absorption
Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids is minimal but can increase with prolonged use, large surface areas, or occlusive dressings. Fusidic acid shows good penetration into the dermis.
Metabolism
Absorbed corticosteroids are metabolized primarily in the liver. Fusidic acid is largely metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to betamethasone valerate, fusidic acid, or any component of the cream
- •Primary skin infections caused by fungi, viruses, or yeasts
- •Primary bacterial skin infections not treated by fusidic acid
- •Acne rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, perianal and genital pruritus
Drug Interactions
No significant topical drug interactions are reported.
Systemic interactions are unlikely due to minimal absorption. However, prolonged use of potent corticosteroids may lead to systemic effects, which could interact with other systemic medications.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Accidental ingestion is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity. Excessive topical application over a prolonged period may lead to systemic effects of corticosteroids, such as Cushing's syndrome, especially in children. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy and lactation only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus or infant. Consult a doctor before use.
