Overview of the medicine
Aztrum-I 60 mg Capsule contains Itopride Hydrochloride, a prokinetic agent used to treat symptoms associated with functional dyspepsia and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) caused by impaired gastric motility, such as heartburn, nausea, bloating, and early satiety.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 50 mg (or 60 mg) three times daily before meals. Dosage may be adjusted based on symptoms and age.
Elderly
Similar to adults, but cautious monitoring is recommended due to potential reduced physiological function.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction or increased dosing interval may be required based on the severity of renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, generally 15-30 minutes before meals.
Mechanism of Action
Itopride increases acetylcholine concentrations by inhibiting both dopamine D2 receptors and acetylcholinesterase, leading to enhanced gastrointestinal motility and gastric emptying.

Excretion
Mainly renal (approximately 75% within 24 hours), with some fecal excretion.

Absorption

Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO-3).
Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Other drugs
Itopride's prokinetic action may affect the absorption of other orally administered drugs, especially those with narrow therapeutic windows.
Anticholinergic drugs
May reduce the prokinetic effect of Itopride.
Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Teprenone, Cetraxate
Do not significantly affect the prokinetic activity of Itopride.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, initiate gastric lavage and symptomatic supportive treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
