Description
Overview of the medicine
Bendil-2-01-Cream contains Betamethasone Valerate, a potent corticosteroid, used to treat various inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin area once or twice daily, as directed by a physician. Rub in gently.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustments required, use with caution.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustments required due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area and rub in gently. Do not apply to the face, groin, or axillae unless directed by a physician. Avoid contact with eyes.
Mechanism of Action
Betamethasone valerate exhibits anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. It induces phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, lipocortins, which control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor arachidonic acid.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours to days of application.
Excretion
Excreted by the kidneys, and to a lesser extent, in the bile.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application; systemic half-life of betamethasone is approximately 5 hours.
Absorption
Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids varies. It can be increased by occlusive dressings, prolonged use, and application to large surface areas or damaged skin. Significant systemic absorption is minimal with proper use.
Metabolism
Metabolized primarily in the liver, similar to systemically administered corticosteroids.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to betamethasone valerate or any component of the cream
- Untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella)
- Rosacea, acne vulgaris
- Perioral dermatitis
- Pruritus without inflammation
Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 Inhibitors
Coadministration with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, itraconazole) may increase systemic exposure, but this is less likely with topical application.
Systemic Corticosteroids
Increased systemic absorption and potential for Cushing's syndrome with concurrent use of other systemic corticosteroids.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely with topical application. Prolonged and excessive use may lead to systemic effects such as Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria. Management involves gradual withdrawal of the drug and symptomatic treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy or lactation should only be considered if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or infant. Consult a doctor before use.
