Description
Overview of the medicine
Bilastine is a non-sedating, long-acting H1-antihistamine indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (seasonal and perennial) and urticaria.

How to Take
Take the tablet orally, on an empty stomach, typically one hour before or two hours after eating food or drinking fruit juice. Swallow with water.
Mechanism of Action
Bilastine acts as a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It prevents the binding of histamine to H1 receptors, thereby inhibiting the histamine-mediated effects such as vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, and itching.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Approximately 95% of the administered dose is excreted unchanged: 28.3% in urine and 66.5% in feces.
Half life
Approximately 14.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within approximately 1.3 hours. Food and fruit juice significantly reduce its bioavailability.
Metabolism
Bilastine is not significantly metabolized in humans. It is not an inducer or inhibitor of CYP450 isoenzymes.
