Description
Overview of the medicine
Billi-Meltab 10 mg Tablet is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used to prevent asthma attacks and to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily, taken in the evening for asthma or allergic rhinitis. For exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, take at least 2 hours before exercise, not to be taken more than once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary.
How to Take
Place the orally disintegrating tablet on the tongue and allow it to dissolve completely, then swallow. It can be taken with or without food. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Montelukast works by blocking leukotrienes, which are natural substances in the body that cause inflammation and tightening of airways in asthma, and also trigger allergy symptoms.

Excreted primarily in feces (about 86%) via bile; <0.2% excreted in urine.

Plasma half-life is 2.7 to 5.5 hours.

Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2C9, CYP2A6).

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to montelukast or any component of the tablet.
- Acute asthma attacks (not for rescue therapy).
Drug Interactions
Rifampin
May decrease the concentration of montelukast.
Phenobarbital
May decrease the concentration of montelukast.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting, and psychomotor hyperactivity.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk, caution is advised during lactation.
