Description
Overview of the medicine
BNZ 1% Suspension is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of pain, inflammation, and fever. It is typically prescribed for conditions such as arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, and dysmenorrhea.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 10 ml (100 mg) three times daily, adjusted according to response and tolerability. Max 30 ml (300 mg) daily.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required, generally 5 ml (50 mg) two to three times daily, with careful monitoring.
Renal_impairment
Reduced dosage is recommended. For mild to moderate impairment, 5 ml (50 mg) twice daily; severe impairment is contraindicated.
How to Take
Shake the bottle well before use. Take the medicine orally, preferably with or after food, to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Use the provided measuring cup or spoon for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Benzafenac, the active ingredient, works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, specifically COX-1 and COX-2. These enzymes are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. By reducing prostaglandin production, Benzafenac effectively alleviates these symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesic effect.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine (60-70%) and feces (30-40%) as metabolites and a small amount of unchanged drug.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations achieved within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by oxidation and conjugation.
