Description
Overview of the medicine
Boni-LG 500 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections including those of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For most infections, 500 mg once daily or 250 mg twice daily. Severe infections may require higher doses as prescribed by a physician.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required for elderly patients with normal renal function. Monitor renal function in elderly.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance (CrCl) 30-50 mL/min, 250 mg once daily. For CrCl < 30 mL/min, 250 mg every 48 hours or as advised by physician.
How to Take
Take Boni-LG 500 mg Tablet orally with or without food. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve.
Mechanism of Action
Boni-LG inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to bacterial lysis and death. It has a bactericidal effect against susceptible organisms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1-2 hours of oral administration.
Excretion
Primarily renal excretion, with 60-80% of the unchanged drug recovered in urine within 24 hours. Some biliary excretion also occurs.
Half life
Approximately 2-3 hours in adults with normal renal function.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally; bioavailability approximately 60-70%. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 2-3 hours after administration.
Metabolism
Undergoes minimal hepatic metabolism. The majority of the drug is excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or any component of Boni-LG.
- History of severe hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions) to any other beta-lactam antibacterial agents (e.g., penicillins, carbapenems).
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
Increases Boni-LG plasma levels by decreasing its renal tubular secretion, prolonging its half-life and increasing exposure.
Aminoglycosides
Concurrent use with aminoglycosides may increase the risk of nephrotoxicity. Monitor renal function closely.
Oral Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Concomitant use may potentiate the anticoagulant effect of warfarin. Monitor INR regularly and adjust anticoagulant dose if necessary.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. There is no specific antidote for Boni-LG. Hemodialysis may be useful in accelerating its elimination from the body.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use Boni-LG during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Boni-LG is excreted in breast milk in small amounts; use with caution in breastfeeding mothers. Consult a doctor.
