Description
Overview of the medicine
Butaret tablet is a combination of Paracetamol and Carisoprodol, used to relieve pain and muscle spasms associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 tablet 2-3 times daily, or as directed by physician.
Elderly
Use with caution; dosage adjustment may be needed based on renal/hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Reduced dosage may be required due to slower excretion of components.
How to Take
Take orally with a glass of water, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol acts as an analgesic and antipyretic by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. Carisoprodol is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant that produces muscle relaxation through its sedative properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Paracetamol: 30-60 minutes. Carisoprodol: 30 minutes.
Excretion
Paracetamol is primarily excreted in the urine. Carisoprodol and its metabolites are primarily excreted by the kidneys.
Half life
Paracetamol: 1-4 hours. Carisoprodol: 8 hours.
Absorption
Paracetamol is rapidly and well absorbed from the GI tract. Carisoprodol is also rapidly absorbed.
Metabolism
Paracetamol is metabolized mainly in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation. Carisoprodol is metabolized in the liver to meprobamate.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to paracetamol, carisoprodol, or related compounds.
- Acute intermittent porphyria.
- Severe hepatic or renal impairment.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
Increased risk of liver damage with paracetamol. Increased CNS depression with carisoprodol.
Warfarin
Paracetamol may enhance anticoagulant effect.
CNS Depressants
Increased sedative effects (e.g., opioids, benzodiazepines).
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, dizziness, and liver damage (paracetamol). Seek immediate medical attention.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and benefits outweigh risks. Consult a doctor. Paracetamol is generally considered safe, but carisoprodol is not recommended. Not recommended during lactation as carisoprodol is excreted in breast milk.
