Description
Overview of the medicine
Care-on 0.1-2% Cream is a combination medicine containing a potent corticosteroid (Betamethasone Valerate) and an antibiotic (Fusidic Acid). It is used to treat inflammatory skin conditions where bacterial infection is present or likely.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area two to three times daily. Treatment duration should not exceed 7-14 days without medical review.
Elderly
Same as adults; caution is advised due to potentially thinner skin.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required for topical application.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply thinly and gently rub into the affected skin area. Wash hands before and after application. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Do not use under occlusive dressings unless advised by a doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Betamethasone Valerate, a corticosteroid, acts by reducing inflammation, pruritus (itching), and causing vasoconstriction. Fusidic Acid is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, leading to bacterial growth inhibition and death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Anti-inflammatory effects can be observed within hours; antibacterial effects develop over several days.
Excretion
Mainly renal and biliary excretion for absorbed active components.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application; systemically absorbed betamethasone has a half-life of 36-54 hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical application; absorption may be increased with occlusive dressings, inflamed skin, or prolonged use.
Metabolism
Systemically absorbed components are primarily metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Betamethasone Valerate, Fusidic Acid, or any excipients.
- Primary bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox).
- Skin conditions caused by fungi, yeasts or viruses.
- Perioral dermatitis, rosacea, acne vulgaris, and ulcerative conditions.
Drug Interactions
Systemic Corticosteroids
Increased risk of systemic side effects if absorbed in large quantities.
Other Topical Preparations
Avoid concomitant use on the same area to prevent dilution or altered absorption.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Keep away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Excessive or prolonged use of topical corticosteroids may lead to systemic effects such as suppression of pituitary-adrenal function. Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment, and gradual withdrawal if systemic absorption is significant.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or lactation. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus/infant, especially for prolonged use or on large surface areas.

Lab Monitoring
- Not typically required for short-term topical use. If extensive or prolonged use, monitoring for adrenal suppression may be considered.
Doctor Notes
- Emphasize short-term use (typically ≤2 weeks) to minimize corticosteroid-related side effects.
- Educate patients on proper application technique and warning signs for adverse reactions.
- Re-evaluate diagnosis and treatment plan if no significant improvement after 7 days.

- Use only as directed by your doctor; do not apply more often or for longer than prescribed.
- Wash hands thoroughly before and after applying the cream.
- Avoid using on the face, groin, or armpits unless specifically directed by a doctor.
- Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve within 7 days.
