Cariprazine is an atypical antipsychotic medication primarily used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder. It helps manage symptoms by modulating certain neurotransmitter activities in the brain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Schizophrenia: Initial 1.5 mg once daily, target 1.5-6 mg once daily. For Bipolar Mania: Initial 1.5 mg once daily, target 3-6 mg once daily. For Adjunctive MDD: Initial 1.5 mg once daily, target 1.5-3 mg once daily.
Elderly
Use with caution in elderly patients; lower starting doses may be appropriate.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally once daily, with or without food. It is recommended to take the capsule at approximately the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Cariprazine acts as a partial agonist at dopamine D3 and D2 receptors, and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, and as an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This unique receptor binding profile contributes to its therapeutic effects.

Excreted primarily through feces and urine.
Half life

Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by CYP3A4 and to a lesser extent by CYP2D6 enzymes.
