Description
Overview of the medicine
Carticel-Plus 250 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) primarily used for the symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal and joint conditions. It works by reducing the production of certain natural substances in the body that cause inflammation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250 mg one to three times daily, or as directed by physician. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 750 mg.
Elderly
Use with caution. Start with the lowest effective dose (e.g., 250 mg once daily) and monitor for adverse effects, especially renal and gastrointestinal.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary. For mild to moderate impairment, consider reducing the dose or extending dosing intervals. Not recommended for severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with a glass of water, preferably with or after food to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Carticel-Plus acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are lipid compounds that mediate pain, inflammation, and fever. By inhibiting COX enzymes, Carticel-Plus reduces prostaglandin production, thereby alleviating pain and inflammation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of pain relief usually within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as metabolites and a small portion in feces.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are usually reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2C9).
