Description
Overview of the medicine
Ceeta (Paracetamol) is an analgesic and antipyretic medicine used to relieve pain and reduce fever. It is widely used for mild to moderate pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg to 1000 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. Maximum 4000 mg in 24 hours.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment needed in severe renal impairment (e.g., reduce dose or extend interval).
How to Take
Administer orally with or without food. Can be taken with food to reduce gastric upset, though generally well-tolerated.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol acts primarily in the central nervous system by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, thus blocking pain impulse generation. It also acts on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center to produce antipyresis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief: 30-60 minutes; Fever reduction: within 30 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates, with less than 5% excreted as unchanged drug.
Half life
1-4 hours (typically 2-3 hours).
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver, mainly by conjugation with glucuronic acid and sulfate. A small amount is metabolized by cytochrome P450 to a highly reactive intermediate (NAPQI), which is then detoxified by glutathione.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to paracetamol
