Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual adult dose is 200 mg to 400 mg daily, taken as a single dose or in two divided doses. For 250 mg tablet, typically 250 mg twice daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required in elderly patients with normal renal function. Adjust dose for renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment is necessary for patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Cefuxet tablets should be taken orally with a glass of water, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death.

Onset
Peak plasma concentrations are achieved 2-6 hours after oral administration.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the kidneys (glomerular filtration and tubular secretion) and also via biliary excretion.
Half life
Plasma half-life is typically 3-4 hours.
Absorption
Approximately 40-50% orally absorbed. Food can slightly delay absorption but does not significantly affect the extent.
Metabolism
Minimal hepatic metabolism. Primarily excreted as unchanged drug.

- History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin.

Probenecid
