Description
Overview of the medicine
Cero-03 Eye Drop contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, used to treat bacterial infections of the eye. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 2-4 times daily, or as directed by a physician. Treatment duration typically 5-7 days.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Wash hands before use. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch, and instill the drop. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Close the eye gently for a few seconds. If using other eye medications, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications.
Mechanism of Action
Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to the disruption of peptidoglycan synthesis, which ultimately results in bacterial cell lysis and death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid local action.
Excretion
Not significant for topical ophthalmic use.
Half life
Not significant for topical ophthalmic use (systemic half-life is approximately 1.2 hours).
Absorption
Systemic absorption following topical ophthalmic administration is minimal.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized when administered topically to the eye.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Other ophthalmic preparations
If multiple ophthalmic medications are used, administer them at least 5-10 minutes apart to avoid washout and ensure proper absorption.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose with ophthalmic cefuroxime is unlikely. If accidentally swallowed, supportive care should be provided. Local irritation may occur if excess drops are used in the eye.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Cefuroxime eye drops are generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation due to minimal systemic absorption. However, consult your doctor before use.
