Adults
200 mg (2 tablets) twice daily or 400 mg (4 tablets) once daily, depending on infection type and severity, typically for 5-10 days.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but monitor renal function due to potential age-related decline.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
Oral administration, can be taken with or without food. For optimal absorption, some sources recommend taking it without food.
Mechanism of Action

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ceftibuten or any other cephalosporin antibiotics.
- History of severe allergic reaction to penicillin (due to potential cross-reactivity).
Drug Interactions
Antacids
Certain antacids may decrease the absorption of ceftibuten; separate administration times.
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, requiring close monitoring of INR.
Probenecid
Increases ceftibuten plasma levels by reducing renal excretion.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended. Hemodialysis may be useful in reducing serum ceftibuten concentrations.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed after consulting a physician. Ceftibuten is excreted in breast milk in small amounts; use with caution in lactating mothers.
