Description
Overview of the medicine
Cinaron 15 mg Tablet is a novel, selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The recommended dose is 15 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required in elderly patients with normal renal function.
Renal_impairment
In patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl <50 mL/min), the dose should be reduced to 7.5 mg once daily or 15 mg every other day. Not recommended for patients with end-stage renal disease.
How to Take
Cinaron 15 mg Tablet should be taken orally, with or without food. It can be taken at any time of day, but consistency is recommended.
Mechanism of Action
Cinaron selectively blocks peripheral H1-histamine receptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of histamine such as itching, sneezing, and runny nose associated with allergic reactions. It has minimal to no sedative effects due to its poor blood-brain barrier penetration.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action typically occurs within 1-2 hours.
Excretion
Excreted primarily through feces (approximately 70%) and urine (approximately 30%) as both unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
The elimination half-life is approximately 10-15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver, mainly via the cytochrome P450 (CYP3A4) enzyme system.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Cinaron or any of its excipients.
- •Severe hepatic impairment.
Drug Interactions
Grapefruit Juice
Consumption of grapefruit juice may increase the systemic exposure of Cinaron, hence concurrent use should be avoided.
Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, Ritonavir
Co-administration with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, erythromycin, or ritonavir may increase Cinaron plasma levels, potentially leading to increased side effects. Use with caution.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. There is no specific antidote for Cinaron. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if ingestion is recent.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Limited data are available on Cinaron use in pregnant or lactating women. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
