Description
Overview of the medicine
Cinaron Plus 20 mg Tablet is a combination medicine containing Cinnarizine and Dimenhydrinate. It is primarily used to treat symptoms associated with vertigo, such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Cinnarizine helps in controlling blood flow to the inner ear, while Dimenhydrinate has antihistaminic and antiemetic properties to reduce nausea and vomiting.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 tablet two to three times daily, preferably with meals. Maximum 3 tablets per day.
Elderly
Same as adults, but caution is advised. Dosage adjustment may be needed based on renal/hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage reduction may be necessary in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Oral. Take tablets with sufficient liquid, preferably after meals to minimize gastrointestinal irritation.
Mechanism of Action
Cinnarizine acts as a calcium channel blocker, inhibiting the influx of calcium into vascular smooth muscle cells, particularly in the inner ear, thereby reducing vestibular stimulation. It also has antihistaminic properties. Dimenhydrinate is an H1-receptor antagonist with significant anticholinergic and antiemetic effects. It primarily suppresses vestibular stimulation and blocks chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) activity, reducing nausea and vomiting.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine and feces.
Half life
Cinnarizine: 4 hours. Dimenhydrinate: 4-6 hours.
Absorption
Cinnarizine: Well absorbed from the GI tract. Dimenhydrinate: Readily absorbed.
Metabolism
Both primarily metabolized in the liver.
