Description
Overview of the medicine
Desloratadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and hives.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg (one tablet) once daily, with or without food.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required, but caution should be exercised.
Renal_impairment
For patients with severe renal impairment, a starting dose of 5 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Clarex tablets are for oral use and can be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It blocks the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms, and inhibits the release of various inflammatory mediators.

Cimetidine
Minor increase in desloratadine plasma levels.
Fluoxetine
Minor increase in desloratadine plasma levels.
Erythromycin
Coadministration with erythromycin resulted in increased plasma concentrations of desloratadine.
Ketoconazole
Coadministration with ketoconazole resulted in increased plasma concentrations of desloratadine.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

In the event of an overdose, initiate symptomatic and supportive treatment. There is no specific antidote for desloratadine. Desloratadine is not effectively removed by hemodialysis.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Desloratadine is excreted into breast milk; therefore, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
