Overview of the medicine
Cefixime is a broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
400 mg once daily or 200 mg twice daily. For uncomplicated gonorrhea, a single 400 mg dose.
Elderly
No dose adjustment required unless severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance < 60 mL/min, reduce dose. For < 20 mL/min, 200 mg once daily.
How to Take
May be taken with or without food. Oral suspension should be shaken well before use.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, leading to cell lysis and bacterial death.

Storage
