Overview of the medicine
Cloxafu 250 mg Capsule contains Cloxacillin, a penicillinase-resistant penicillin antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, particularly those caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250-500 mg orally every 6 hours, usually taken 30-60 minutes before meals.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but dose reduction may be necessary in severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <10 mL/min), consider reducing the dose or extending the dosing interval.
How to Take
Take the capsule orally with a glass of water, preferably on an empty stomach (at least 30-60 minutes before meals or 2 hours after meals) to ensure maximum absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Cloxacillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine, with some biliary excretion.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Oral Contraceptives
May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives; advise using alternative birth control.
Storage

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and rarely, convulsions. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; hemodialysis may be considered in severe cases.
