Overview of the medicine
CX-C Plus is a combination medication containing Dextromethorphan HBr, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, and Phenylephrine HCl, used to relieve symptoms of cough and cold such as dry cough, sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 ml orally, 3 times daily or as directed by physician.
Elderly
Use with caution, dose adjustment may be necessary based on renal function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, dose reduction may be necessary.
How to Take
Oral, with or without food. Use measuring spoon/cup provided.
Mechanism of Action
Dextromethorphan HBr acts as a cough suppressant by centrally acting on the medulla. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms. Phenylephrine HCl is a decongestant that constricts blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing swelling and congestion.

Mainly renal, as metabolites and unchanged drug.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug
- •Patients taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping MAOI therapy
- •Severe hypertension or severe coronary artery disease
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Concomitant use with MAOIs can lead to hypertensive crisis.
CNS Depressants
Increased sedative effects with alcohol, tranquilizers, sedatives.
Antihypertensives
Phenylephrine may reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, hypertension, tachycardia, and hallucinations. Management is supportive, including gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and symptomatic treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as components may pass into breast milk.
