Description
Overview of the medicine
Cofresh 0.1% Eye Drop is a sterile ophthalmic solution containing Sodium Hyaluronate, used to relieve dry eye symptoms, irritation, and discomfort caused by environmental factors or prolonged screen time. It provides long-lasting lubrication and hydration to the ocular surface.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 3-4 times daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Wash hands before use. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch, and instill drops without touching the eye or eyelid with the dropper tip. Close eye gently for a few seconds.
Mechanism of Action
Sodium Hyaluronate is a natural polysaccharide present in the eye. It works by lubricating and moisturizing the ocular surface, forming a viscoelastic protective layer that mimics natural tears, thereby reducing friction and providing relief from dry eye symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Immediate relief, typically within minutes of application.
Excretion
Primarily cleared from the ocular surface through tear drainage. Any minimal systemic absorption is excreted renally.
Half life
Not applicable for local action; quickly cleared from ocular surface through tear turnover.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration. Primarily acts locally on the ocular surface.
Metabolism
Locally metabolized by hyaluronidases present in ocular tissues, if any systemic absorption occurs it is metabolized by the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Sodium Hyaluronate or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
None reported
Generally considered safe with other ophthalmic medications, but if using multiple eye drops, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications.
Storage
Store below 25°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Ocular overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to local action and minimal absorption. If swallowed, supportive care may be needed, though unlikely to cause significant harm.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Considered safe during pregnancy and lactation due to minimal systemic absorption. Consult a physician if concerned.
