Description
Overview of the medicine
Conrif-DS eye drop is an ophthalmic emulsion containing Cyclosporine, primarily used to increase natural tear production in patients with chronic dry eye disease.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill one drop in each affected eye twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Invert the closed unit dose vial a few times to obtain a uniform, opaque, white emulsion before use. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface. Remove contact lenses prior to administration and wait 15 minutes before reinserting them.
Mechanism of Action
Cyclosporine acts as a calcineurin inhibitor, suppressing immune responses and reducing inflammation associated with chronic dry eye disease, thereby increasing natural tear production.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical improvement in tear production may take several weeks to months.
Excretion
Mainly local excretion; minimal systemic excretion.
Half life
Systemic half-life is not clinically significant for ophthalmic use.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption following topical ophthalmic administration.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in ocular tissues; minimal systemic metabolism.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cyclosporine or any of the other ingredients.
Drug Interactions
Other topical ophthalmic medications
If using more than one topical ophthalmic medication, administer them at least 15 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Topical ophthalmic overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity. If accidentally ingested, supportive measures may be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman due to minimal systemic absorption; consult a doctor.
