Description
Overview of the medicine
Coralvit-DX 600 mg Tablet is a combination medicine containing elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3. It is primarily used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, promoting bone health.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 tablet once or twice daily, or as directed by the physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, but caution with renal function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution and monitor calcium/phosphate levels. Dose adjustment may be necessary in severe cases.
How to Take
Oral. Can be taken with or without food. For best absorption, it's often advised to take with meals. Do not crush or chew if not a chewable tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Calcium is an essential mineral for bone formation, nerve transmission, muscle contraction, and blood coagulation. Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium from the gastrointestinal tract and regulates calcium and phosphate levels, crucial for bone mineralization.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Gradual, as it involves bone remodeling and mineral replenishment.
Excretion
Calcium is primarily excreted via urine and feces. Vitamin D metabolites are excreted mainly in bile and feces.
Half life
Calcium's physiological half-life is complex; Vitamin D3's half-life is about 15-20 days.
Absorption
Calcium absorption varies and is influenced by vitamin D levels. Vitamin D3 is well absorbed from the GI tract.
Metabolism
Calcium is not metabolized in the traditional sense. Vitamin D3 is hydroxylated in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and then in the kidneys to the active form 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25(OH)2D].
