Description
Overview of the medicine
Cortimet-1-Cream is a topical corticosteroid formulation containing Clobetasol Propionate, used to reduce inflammation, itching, and redness associated with various skin conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin area once or twice daily. Treatment should be limited to short periods, usually no longer than 2-4 weeks, without reassessment.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised due to potential for increased skin fragility and systemic absorption.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment recommended for topical use, but use with caution if significant systemic absorption is anticipated.
How to Take
For topical application only. Wash hands before and after applying the cream. Do not apply to the face, groin, or axillae unless specifically directed by a doctor. Avoid contact with eyes.
Mechanism of Action
Clobetasol Propionate acts by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, thereby controlling the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. It also has vasoconstrictive properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Anti-inflammatory effects can be observed within hours to days of topical application.
Excretion
Excreted mainly by the kidneys, with some biliary excretion.
Half life
Systemic half-life of absorbed clobetasol propionate is approximately 3-5 hours.
Absorption
Systemic absorption varies with the integrity of the epidermal barrier, area of application, duration of treatment, and presence of occlusive dressings. Absorption is higher in areas with thin skin or broken skin.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Untreated cutaneous bacterial, fungal, or viral infections
- •Rosacea
- •Acne vulgaris
- •Perioral dermatitis
- •Pruritus without inflammation

Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., Ritonavir, Itraconazole)
Coadministration with CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase systemic exposure to clobetasol propionate, potentially leading to Cushing's syndrome and/or adrenal suppression. Use with caution.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely. Chronic overuse or misuse can lead to systemic effects such as Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and adrenal suppression. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown whether topical clobetasol is excreted in human milk. Use with caution in nursing mothers.
