Description
Overview of the medicine
Cozid 250 mg Injection contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Cozid 250 mg Injection, typically 250 mg once daily for 2-5 days depending on the type and severity of infection. For CAP and PID, higher initial doses of 500 mg IV as a single daily dose for 1-2 days may be followed by oral therapy or continued IV.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment needed unless severe renal or hepatic impairment is present.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
For intravenous infusion only. Administer slowly over 60 minutes. Do not administer as a bolus.
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and interfering with nucleic acid synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid, typically within hours for IV administration.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in bile; a small percentage is excreted renally.
Half life
Prolonged, ranging from 2 to 4 days due to extensive tissue uptake and slow release.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after intravenous administration, leading to high tissue concentrations.
Metabolism
Minor hepatic metabolism; primarily demethylation.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Azithromycin, Erythromycin, or any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic.
- History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior Azithromycin use.

QT-prolonging drugs
Increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias. Avoid co-administration with other drugs known to prolong the QT interval.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Do not freeze. Reconstituted solution should be used immediately.
