Description
Overview of the medicine
Curin 5 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat. It is also used to relieve symptoms of chronic urticaria (hives) including itching and rash.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One 5 mg tablet once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment generally required for elderly patients with normal renal and hepatic function. Use with caution in those with impaired function.
Renal_impairment
For patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min), a reduced frequency of administration (e.g., 5 mg every other day) should be considered.
How to Take
Curin tablet can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a long-acting tricyclic histamine antagonist with selective H1-receptor inverse agonist activity. It prevents histamine from binding to H1 receptors, thereby alleviating allergy symptoms. It also has anti-inflammatory effects.

Primarily excreted in urine (approximately 40%) and feces (approximately 45%) as metabolites.

Absorption
Well absorbed orally; peak plasma concentration reached in approximately 3 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver to 3-hydroxydesloratadine, an active metabolite, via cytochrome P450 enzymes (primarily CYP2D6).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to desloratadine, loratadine, or any component of the formulation.
- •Severe hepatic impairment (use with caution)
Drug Interactions
Cimetidine
Increased plasma concentration of desloratadine.
Erythromycin
Increased plasma concentration of desloratadine.
Ketoconazole
Increased plasma concentration of desloratadine.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, somnolence, and headache. In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Desloratadine is excreted in breast milk; therefore, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug.
