Cyclotox acts as an alkylating agent. It forms cross-links within DNA strands, preventing cell division and leading to apoptosis of rapidly dividing cells, particularly cancer cells. It is cell cycle non-specific.

Cyclotox is contraindicated during pregnancy due to its teratogenic and embryotoxic potential. It is also contraindicated during lactation as it is excreted in breast milk and can harm the infant. Effective contraception should be used by both male and female patients during and after treatment.
