Description
Overview of the medicine
Cytacin 4 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and other allergic conditions. It helps reduce itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 tablet (4 mg) once daily, or as directed by physician. May be increased to 8 mg daily in severe cases.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required unless renal impairment is present. Start with lowest effective dose.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance 10-50 mL/min, 2 mg daily. For creatinine clearance <10 mL/min, 2 mg every other day. Consult physician.
How to Take
Take orally, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Cytacin acts as a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It binds to histamine H1 receptors, preventing histamine from binding and exerting its effects, thereby reducing allergic symptoms.

Primarily excreted unchanged in urine.

Approximately 8-10 hours.

Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Cytozine Hydrochloride or any component of the tablet.
- •Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <10 mL/min) without dose adjustment.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin, Ketoconazole, Cimetidine
May slightly increase Cytozine exposure, but generally not clinically significant.
CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives)
May enhance CNS depressant effects, increasing drowsiness.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, tachycardia, headache, and urinary retention. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered soon after ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have shown no evidence of fetal harm, but no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk; consult physician before use during lactation.
