Description
Overview of the medicine
Daomin is a venotonic and vasoprotective agent used for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) symptoms and hemorrhoids. It improves venous tone, reduces capillary permeability, and exhibits anti-inflammatory effects.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Chronic Venous Insufficiency: 2 tablets (500 mg each) daily, in two divided doses, or 1 tablet (1000 mg) once daily, with meals. Acute Hemorrhoidal Attack: 6 tablets daily for the first 4 days, then 4 tablets daily for 3 days, with meals. Chronic Hemorrhoids: 2 tablets daily, with meals.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required based on current data.
How to Take
To be taken orally, preferably with meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
Mechanism of Action
It acts on the venous return system, reducing venous distensibility and venous stasis. It normalizes capillary permeability and increases lymphatic drainage. It also has anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical effects often observed within a few weeks.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in faeces (approximately 79%), and urine (approximately 14%).
Half life
Approximately 11 hours for diosmetin (active metabolite).
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, extensively metabolized to phenolic acids. Absorption is enhanced by micronization.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized to phenolic acids, primarily diosmetin, which are then conjugated.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Drug Interactions
0
Although no specific interaction studies have been performed, clinically significant interactions are rare.
1
Theoretical interaction with P-glycoprotein substrates (e.g., Warfarin), but unlikely to be clinically significant.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose are generally mild, such as gastrointestinal disturbances (diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain) and headache. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Studies in animals have not shown teratogenic effects. Limited human data suggest no adverse effects. Use only if clearly needed and after consulting a doctor. Lactation: It is not known whether diosmin is excreted in human milk. A decision must be made whether to discontinue breastfeeding or to discontinue the therapy taking into account the benefit of breastfeeding for the child and the benefit of therapy for the woman.
