Overview of the medicine
Desloratadine is a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and hives.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg once daily, with or without food.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment generally required, but caution with renal/hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min), 5 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Take orally, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a long-acting tricyclic antihistamine with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and blocks histamine-induced effects.
