Deotrim 400 mg Tablet is a combination antibiotic containing Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. It is used to treat various bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and certain types of pneumonia.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically, two tablets (Sulfamethoxazole 400 mg + Trimethoprim 80 mg) twice daily for 7-14 days.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment may be required based on renal function.

Dose reduction or increased dosing interval is necessary based on creatinine clearance.
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk and a full glass of water. Complete the full course of medication as prescribed.
Mechanism of Action
This medicine works by inhibiting two consecutive steps in the bacterial folic acid synthesis pathway. Sulfamethoxazole inhibits dihydropteroate synthetase, and Trimethoprim inhibits dihydrofolate reductase. This synergistic blockade prevents bacterial DNA and RNA synthesis, leading to bacterial death.
